The Galena Area

His home and a Civil War museum are open to the public.  Main Street in downtown Galena has a large number of specialty and antique shops and restaurants, both casual and formal dining, and is home to the Galena Cellers winery. Chestnut Mountain Resort is open year round for snow skiing in the winter; Alpine slides, zipline and Segway tours in the summer.

The Galena Territory is a private 6,800 acre development located six miles southeast of downtown Galena. The area is best known for its 63 holes of championship golf, including “The General,” which Golf Digest ranked #41 in the 07/08 “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses.” The trail system has over 40 miles of trails so everyone can enjoy exploring and hiking the area. The Shenandoah Riding Center rents horses for trail rides year round. The “General Store” is a convenience store offering groceries, cold beverages, sandwiches, and snacks for your picnic or party.

The activities here are bountiful and the wild life abounds!
